The most traumatic public occurrences of his life were the two World Wars and the Great Depression.

He lived under Presidents from Rutherford B. Hayes to Dwight D. Eisenhower.

In 1896 Henry Ford built his first automobile in a rented workshop on Mack Avenue in Detroit. In 1904 he founded the Ford Motor Company. Ford introduced "the first affordable automobile", the Model T, in 1908.
