(2) William J. Adams and Caroline Adams lived in Huron County, Ohio, in the 1870 Census. I've found no marriage record, but William H. Shaw and Caroline Shaw lived in Huron County in 1860 [Microfilm series M653, Roll 991, Page 245]. It appears that William Adams married the widow Caroline Shaw after their first spouses died (between 1860 and 1870).

The death record of Jennie S. Niles (born 17 Sep 1856 and died 21 Mar 1928 in Huron County, Ohio, husband Ansel W. Niles) lists her parents as William Shaw and Corline Milks (sic) [Ohio Deaths and Burials, 1854-1997, FamilySearch.org]. A Jennie Shaw (age 16) lived with William and Caroline Adams in 1870; a Sarah Mix (age 65, born New York) lived with William H. and Caroline Shaw in 1860.

Other points of interest

  1. William J. Adams lived with his older brother James M. Adams in 1850 in Plymouth, Michigan.

  2. "As early as 1827, John Westfall purchased 320 acres of land in Wayne Co., MI, from Ambrose and Clarissa Spear of Macedon, NY. He became a prosperous farmer in the Plymouth, Wayne Co., MI, area and was involved in numerous land transactions. It was a shock to his family and to the community when he took his own life in 1866. A good friend wrote a poem, published in the Plymouth Mail newspaper, eulogizing John. His wife, Mary, and three grown children were mentioned in John's will." [findagrave.com].
